Why do strategic initiatives fail? The top reason is that they fail to get implemented. Without project management, project management training, and the people employed by the hospital, critical strategic initiatives aren’t acted on and pushed further, leaving them to fail.

Project managers need to start by understanding what their goals are. Without that, it’s not possible to reach your desired outcome. For hospitals to manage a project, they need to know what they’re trying to accomplish, the structure of the initiatives, and the key leadership they have to execute effectively.

How do you deal with the overwhelming feeling that can arise when you have so many projects reaching different milestones? People often look at the big picture of a project, but you need to break it down into more manageable, bite-size pieces. Start with the three tasks that the team can do now to help get one or two projects done. Repeat this daily, and that will help you prioritize the projects.

Why do initiatives fail, take way too long, and become way over budget? When we break it down, we find that project management is the root cause of the failure. But when project management is implemented correctly, it is the vehicle that will drive you to be successful on future initiatives and aid in achieving project goals.
